Most of us are settled back into our routine and the past summer break feels like faaar back!
I can’t miss to share my holiday reflections with you!
We usually spend the main time of our yearly summer break back home. Every year is different though because of the kids being at a different age stage.
My husband traveled back to Dubai after a 10 days family holiday.
Me and the kids decided to stay back for another 6 weeks, to avoid the yucky Dubai summer.
Needless to say it was INTENSE, fun and super insightful!
It’s quite a bunch of valuable and different lessons, that I usually get from being alone with my two dragons!
Lets see what I have;
A)
The general rules can change according to a different routine, unusual environment and within a different household.
Unless I inform the kids and explain why the change of rules, I can’t expect
them to respect them.
B)
Since kids do better when they know whats next, I should inform and explain to the kids about the upcoming program or daily schedule ahead of time. Not too far ahead though.(Increases cooperation).
C)
When alone with the kids, I required more help and Independence from my kids.
Knowing that, I as a parent need to explain to them what I need from them at a certain moment. If not understood I need to explain why.
D)
Visiting friends back home has been easy when they were younger but now (4 and 6) the place or people we meet with, need to offer common interests. (Kids to play with or a place to play at)
E)
It’s important to Set up our program and routine in a way where my interests and needs and the different ones of my kids are both met. (Creates a climate of mutual understanding and respect).
F)
In order to avoid overstimulation, one outdoor activity per day is more than enough.
G)
While on holiday, I can be more relaxed when it comes to the kid’s diet.
H)
If the usual bedtime is out the window while it suits our holiday routine, so be it.
I)
Traveling back one week before school starts is the right timing for us to settle back in.
What was it like for you? Can you relate?
What were your lessons or takeaways this summer?
